How to Exercise and Eat Healthy When You Don’t Have Time
I know I’m not alone in feeling like there are not enough hours in the day to accomplish everything on our to-do list. We’re all pressed for time these days thanks to our busy lifestyles, and often, that means exercise and healthy eating go out the window for many people. But it turns out incorporating these two habits into our daily routine can actually help us accomplish more throughout our day Continue reading
Happy Hump Day, everyone! Yesterday I went to my first Orangetheory Fitness (OTF) class and wanted to share my experience and thoughts about the workout with you. I first learned about this workout program/studio via Facebook (it came up as a Suggested Post since some of my Facebook friends had ‘Liked’ the page). More recently, I read about the program in the September issue of SELF magazine. The article discussed the afterburn effect of high intensity interval training and how OTF incorporates this science-backed practice into their workout routines. The article also included a sample workout that you can do at your own gym, similar to the routines done at the studio.
I’ve been looking for ways to change up my workout routine since I’ve hit a plateau and am also getting a little bored with my cardio on the elliptical. I know I need to push my body harder, and this class seemed like the perfect way to do just that. Plus, the first session is free—there was no reason not to give it a try. Continue reading
Fall is my favorite time of year. There’s so much I love about the season: the smells, the crisp air, Halloween, the fashion, the foliage, and, of course, the food. The fall harvest is ripe with many delicious and nutritious fruits and vegetables, some of which are my favorites and I eat year-round—hello, sweet potatoes and apples! Aside from being good for your health, many of these foods are good for your skin, too! Here are some of my favorite fall foods with great skin benefits. Get ready to eat your way to a beautiful complexion! Continue reading
Good morning, everyone! I hope your day is off to a wonderful and healthy start. The morning is actually one of my favorite times of the day because I have some “me time” to think, read, plan my day, and, of course, eat a delicious and nutritious breakfast. If you’ve read any fitness or bodybuilding blogs, you’re probably aware of the typical breakfast of egg whites and oatmeal. This meal offers a great combination of protein and complex carbs to jump-start your metabolism, give you energy for your day, and keep you full until lunchtime. I usually workout in the late morning/early afternoon and this combo gets me through my workout and doesn’t leave me ravenous hours later. Continue reading
Happy Friday, everyone! I hope your weekend is off to a great start. I’d like to welcome you to my first installment of Friday Faves. Every Friday I’ll be sharing a few of my favorite fitness- and/or nutrition-related things, from products to food to fashion to people…to so much more.
As I mentioned in a previous post, there are a ton of health and fitness sites on the web today; I usually discover a new site or blog every week. I think it’s great that so much information about fitness, nutrition, health, and well-being is available online, and that so many people get to share their stories and inspire others through their journey, including myself. Sometimes, however, too much of even a good thing, well, can be too much of a good thing. Continue reading
Whether you’re just starting out on your weight-loss journey or have the last (and hardest!) 10 pounds to go, I’m sure you’d love to find a way to burn additional calories without spending extra time in the gym or cutting more calories from your diet. Well, you’re in luck! A little thing called non-exercise activity thermogenesis (NEAT) can help increase your metabolism and burn extra calories—and you don’t even have to break a sweat to do it. Last Saturday my boyfriend Steve and I decided to venture to New York City and (finally) try out one of the many healthy restaurants we’ve been putting on our “Places To Eat At” list. It was a rainy day, so we tried to establish a game plan before we left so that we wouldn’t be wandering around the city in the rain once we got there. We picked a few places that were relatively close to one another and then made our way (via the bus) to the city. Once we arrived at the Port Authority bus station, we made our way to Hell’s Kitchen. I’d had a session with my trainer, Adam, earlier that day and didn’t really eat much, so after driving an hour to Steve’s place (he lives in New Jersey), waiting about 30 minutes for the bus to come, and then the 30-35 minute bus ride, I was definitely starting to experience some hunger pains. As we made our way toward Hell’s Kitchen we decided to narrow down our options since we were both entering “hangry” mode. We were between Fuel Grill & Juice Bar and Hummus Kitchen, which were just a few blocks away from each other on 9th Ave. Continue reading
